We offer Hand-Held Magnetic Bead Separation Blocks for rapid manual bead separation and washing. Our unique Flick & Blot Blocks allow you to remove all liquid from the wells in under 10 seconds with minimal bead loss and without the need for an expensive robotic liquid handler or plate washer. Hand-Held Blocks are available for standard microplates, deep well plates, PCR plates, and even racks for tubes. After filling with the sample or a wash buffer and bead separation, simply flick out the liquid and tap the block onto our Super Absorbent Lint-Free Blotting Paper to remove the last drops of liquid. V&P’s Hand-Held Magnetic Bead Separation Blocks utilize the strongest NdFeB magnets available (50 – 52 MGO). In conjunction with our unique proprietary designs, we ensure minimal bead loss during washing even when the plates are pounded to remove the last bits of liquid. Our Flick & Blot Hand-Held Blocks have been validated by many laboratories and incorporated into their magnetic bead assay protocols. One of these protocols calls for thirty washes, and no significant bead loss has been observed when using our Hand-Held Blocks.

The H Version Flick & Blot is designed for standard flat bottom 96 well microplates. Post Magnets are placed at the edge locations of the wells and the magnetic beads are pulled to the edges of the wells and keep the center regions clear. This results in minimal bead loss if eluent is aspirated by pipetting.

VP 771HH-LF

     
 

The LF Version Flick & Blot is designed for 96 well PCR plates, but it is also compatible with standard and 96 deep well microplates. One large post magnet separates the beads for every four wells, pulling the magnetic beads up the sides of the PCR well into a pellet at the elevation of the liquid or the top surface of the magnet. This design can also be used with round bottom 96 well microplates where the magnets protrude up into the opening between every four wells and ensure maximum magnet and bead proximity and minimal bead loss.

The R Version Flick & Blot is designed for all standard 96 well microplates. Large post magnets that cover the entire bottoms of each well are utilized for maximum magnetic strength and pull. The magnetic beads form a thin layer across the bottoms of the wells to maximize exposed surface areas and maximum bead washing efficiency.

VP 771HH-LA

     
 

The LA Version Flick & Blot is designed for 96 well PCR plates, but is also compatible with standard and 96 deep well microplates. One large magnet is utilized for every four wells, pulling the magnetic beads up the sides of the PCR well into a pellet at the elevation of the liquid or the top surface of the magnet. The magnets that are used for this design protrude higher than the VP 771HH-LF Flick & Blot so that the resulting pellets are located higher up the PCR well. The design also offers advantages when used with round bottom 96 well microplates because the magnets protrude up into the openings between every four wells, to ensure maximum magnet and bead proximity and minimal bead loss.

The MC Version Flick & Blot is designed for 96 deep well microplates, but is also compatible with standard 96 well microplates. Six bar magnets are placed between every two wells of the microplate. The magnet design and arrangement maximize the reach of the magnetic field to the top of a deep well microplate. This ensures that all magnetic beads are separated and done so rapidly.

The G-4 Version Flick & Blot is designed for standard flat bottom 384 well microplates. The Micro-Centrifuge Version Flick & Blot is designed for 1.5 or 2 ml snap cap microcentrifuge tubes tubes. The rack securely holds up to 12 tubes at a time. The magnetic beads are pulled up to the sides of the tubes so that the liquid can be evacuated by simply flipping the rack upside down and pounding the rack on blotting paper to remove all liquid drops. Because the tubes are securely held in place, there is no concern that the tubes will fall out when the device is “Flicked” or “Blotted”. Each tube position is adjacent to both a high and low magnet in order to provide good bead separation in a wide range of volumes of solution to be separated. No matter the volume in the wash or reaction liquid, the beads are quickly pulled to the side of the tube.

V&P’s Flick & Blot Hand-Held Magnetic Separation Blocks allow for rapid evacuation of liquid from microplates after separation is achieved. One key step in the process after most of the liquid has been “Flicked” from the wells is to “Blot” the remaining bits of liquid. Our Lint-Free Blotting Paper in conjunction with our Absorbent Polypropylene Pad is an economical setup to ensure the remaining liquid is wicked from the wells of the microplates while avoiding any liquid messes.
