We offer a large assortment of magnetic Stainless Steel Stir Elements from Stir
StiXs to bars and dowels to fit into any well, vial, tube or syringe.
Check out the Stir
Element page
for more information on coatings and dimensions.
We also sell
Alnico and Rare Earth Magnetic Stir Bars and Discs that are capable of
stirring the most viscous liquids even honey. Our Magnetic discs are
magnetized through the thickness and consequently stand on end and Tumble
laterally producing the most efficient vortex cones. |

A demonstration of the Tumble Stirrer using Stir
StiXs to rapidly mix tall solutions of different specific densities in glass
vials. In this video we illustrate the ease and speed of a Vortex Stirrer "Tequila Sunrise" *(sucrose solutions of different color and
density). This Stir StiX method also has application in solubility studies and
resolubilizing chemical libraries prior to testing. Many compounds
with poor solubility float on top the solution and so there is inadequate
exposure to the solvent. The Stir StiX passes
through the solvent/compound interface and assures the maximum degree of
solubilization. More information about this new method of stirring
can be found on the Stir StiX page.

The Vortex Lateral
Tumble Stirrer Model VP 708A is a triangle measuring 30.5 cm on each
side and 40 cm tall. The Stir deck weighs 9 kg.
The
VP 708A Vortex Lateral Tumble Stirrer simultaneously stirs 7
layers of 3 standard microplates - 21 total or 2,016 specimens in 96 well
microplates, 8,064 specimens in 384 well microplates or 32,256 specimens
in 1536 well microplates.
The VP 708A is capable of spinning the stir elements at speeds from 40 to
1550
RPM. The high speed vortex action is great for many applications
especially if you want to stir the contents of deep well microplates.
The ability to turn the stir elements over 1550 RPM in the same direction,
creates significant fluid movement. This fluid movement and the physical
interaction with the stir elements is ideal for resuspending dried
extracts, mixing viscous reagents and keeping organisms or beads in
suspension in deep well microplates.
This model also is
available in a CE compliant version (VP 708ACE). The designation "CE" on the catalog
number of stirrers indicates the international version designed to
operate on 230 Volts at 50 hertz.
All of the motors and controls used in
the Vortex Lateral Tumble Stirrer are rated for continuous rugged usage and are maintenance
free. If you need to stir for long periods of time, this system won't
quit on you. |

The platters that
the microplates rest on can be reconfigured to adapt to plates or racks of
different heights by simply adding or subtracting spacers. The photo

One customer had an application that required
mixing and being able to visually monitor the bottom his plates while
mixing. Our solution was the
VP 708A-L-PLATTER with a nest
that is cut in the platter to hold the edge of a microplate and a
rectangular hole to expose the bottom surface of the plate for a variety
of optical probes to access the bottom surface.
|
|
|
|
| |
The number of VP
708A-L-PLATTERs to use will depend on the requirements of the optical
sensors used. The photo on the right illustrates the flexibility of
construction design. Just add or subtract spacer rings to increase
or decrease the distance between the platters.

The
VP 708S Vortex Lateral Tumble Stirrer can hold more microplates and simultaneously stirs
9
layers of 4 standard microplates - 36 total or 3,456 specimens in 96 well microplates,
13,824 specimens in 384 well microplates or 55,296 specimens
in 1536 well microplates.
The VP 708S is capable of spinning the stir elements at speeds from 40 to
1550
RPM. The high speed vortex action is great for many applications
especially if you want to stir the contents of deep well microplates.
The ability to turn the stir elements over 1500 RPM in the same direction,
creates significant fluid movement. This fluid movement and the physical
interaction with the stir elements is ideal for resuspending dried
extracts, mixing viscous reagents and keeping organisms or beads in
suspension in deep well microplates.
The larger
magnetic cylinder of the VP 708S produces a magnet flux field that
extends farther than the VP 708A thus it facilitates the stirring of
much more viscous solutions.
This model also is
available in a CE compliant version (VP 708SCE). The designation "CE" on the catalog
number of stirrers indicates the international version designed to
operate on 230 Volts at 50 hertz.
All of the motors and controls used in
the Vortex Lateral Tumble Stirrer are rated for continuous rugged usage and are maintenance

quit on you.

The newest of our innovations in stirring in
microplates are the Umbrella Stirrers
VP 772FNU-24. The Umbrella Stirrers are constructed out of
PTFE with our unique sandwich pockets for the magnets positioned above
the support plate to keep the stirrer from touching the bottom of the
microplate. These Umbrella Stirrers allow for mixing in 24
well microplates without touching the bottom or sides of the wells.
Thus cells or other objects on the bottom of the wells will not be
damaged or disturbed when new compounds or reagents are added to the
wells and mixed. These stirrers are capable of mixing solutions as
viscous as 90% honey. See video
This system can also be used to mix magnetic beads as the stirrer's magnet
is not in contact with the liquid.
These stirrers are designed to only work with our VP 708 series Vortex
Stirrers. |

The Vortex Lateral Tumble Stirrers are available on a lease/option to buy program.
This allows you to do Proof of Principle experiments to see if Vortex Tumble
Stirring will work in your application. If it works for you, then the
first month lease payment is applied to the purchase price of any of our
Stirrers. The first month lease payment is only 10% of the purchase price.
If it doesn't work in your application just send it back to us. The second month lease is 50%
of the purchase price and is NOT applicable to the purchase price of
another stirrer it is just applicable to the leased Stirrer.
